TransChart's roots begin
at The Ohio State University Medical Center in the Division of Transplantation in 1997. This world class
transplant center, completing nearly 5000 transplants, ranks among the highest volume and best success rates for kidney and combined
kidney-pancreas transplants in the U.S. The physicians at this center
were in great need of a database system that would allow them to conduct
Clinical Care, Research and Administrative Reporting
from a single system, simultaneously. This needed to be achieved while decreasing the
number of people required to manage a growing transplant program.
Development began in early 1997 with the first version released about 9 months later. The system was an immediate success with its interface
engine integrating existing systems in real time. The database quickly evolved and took on a life of its own. It was obvious that this was not
simply a database to track transplant patients but a robust electronic medical record designed to manage chronically ill,
pharmaceutical intensive patients. Eventually the database became a real Electronic Medical Record
and expanded with the following major enhancements being developed:
